Staff at Willaura Primary School take advantage of every opportunity for our students to participate in activities outside school and to learn about and engage with the wider community. Extra curricular activities include Pancake Day, Grandparents Day, Harmony Day, Dress To Impress, performing at the local hospital, visits by school bands, cooking and gardening, and guest speakers.
In particular, we have a strong link with the Willaura RSL. Each year our Year 6 students participate in the Willaura RSL ANZAC Day Service. Student visits to the cenotaph and visits by RSL representatives to speak about ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day ensure students leave our school with a strong understanding of the history and significance of the impact of war on Australia and their local community.
Year 5/6 students also travel to Melbourne on Remembrance Day each year to participate in the schools service at the Shrine of Remembrance.
Willaura Primary School's camping program aims to foster social skills, independence, leadership, environmental awareness and to provide students with a range of educational activities to reinforce and extend classroom learning.
Our Prep students are gradually introduced to our School Camp program by enjoying an extended school day and evening meal at school. In Foundation and Year 1 our students have a sleepover at the school. Year 2/3/4/5/6 involves a wider ranging camp experience.
As part of the ARC (Ararat Rural Cluster) group our Year 2 - 6 students will participate in the following camps :
